Ruth Ansel

This months creative review has a lovely article on the first lady of art direction within the three most influential magazines of all time, Ruth Ansel
As well as proving woman can succeed just as well as men in the wonderful world of design she talks about the 'death' of print. She's an inspiration to us all ladies! haha :)

Is the Poster dead?

After going to the VCT lesson for Posters with Monika i have become really interested with flirting around the question "Is the Poster dead?"
In promotion it is said that the conventional billboards are no longer effective, people are more skeptical about being sold something which is why we are seeing more and more unique and creative methods of promotion that we might difficult to class as a poster
Is the poster dead? Or is it simply evolving?
These are a few examples to illustrate what i mean..

A few posters that go against the grain..

the first three posters are by Ian Brown, a graphic designer. A lot of his posters are very interesting as he looks at the form of the poster as well as the content. i am no longer looking at flat and oblong posters...

Environmental Awareness

Ads that caught my eye all with a powerful environmental message

Ambient Advertising

here are a few examples of ambient advertsing from all over the world, created by those hot shot advertisers.
all of these are very inspirational, breaking away from the 'traditional' poster and created unique and compelling pieces of work that would definitely make a passer by stop and take interest.

Printmaking: A contemporary perspective

Over the Easter break i went to the Printmaking:A contemporary perspective exhibition at the Black Dog Space in Kings Cross.

A very small building hidden behind large black doubles doors in between terraced houses.

The exhibition was the celebrate the release of a new book by Black Dog Publishing of the same name. I have just rented the book out from the library and plan to give it a good read over the history of the poster and where it plans to go next in these modern times

works in the exhibition included those from Michael Craig Martin and Susan Collins

Clear Channel Create

These are a few examples of billboard and bus stop posters created by 'Create' who team up with advertisers and clients to produce large scale posters to "deliver some of the most powerful and inventive campaigns in the market."

When going through their website i realised that i have actually seen some of their stuff out and about in London before and never took much notice.

Once again I am confronted with posters that show a tactile and 3d feel which i find to be very intriguing and fun to look at
